THE PLACE:
We were lucky to stumble across this place when searching for places to stay in Mysore. It’s one of the very few recommended homestays in the city. Run by a very hospitable couple, Mr and Mrs T Suguna who retired to the countryside in search of peace and quiet – it is exactly what you’re looking for — a home away from home, but away from the noise and pollution of city life. It’s a few kms away from the city but well worth the ride if you’re looking for a homely experience.
It’s a farm in the real sense – there are cows being milked, gardens being tended to, vegetables being grown and other activities going on around the area while you soak in the feeling of being one with nature.
The best part is a swimming pool adjacent to the main house – you can probably spend quite a few happy hours with the family frolicking around in the water! The rooms are clean and cosy and you can ask for their recommendation on the size depending on the members of your family.
They also added a massage service so you can take advantage of a Kerala Ayurvedic massage at your convenient time.
The food is simple and delicious (vegetarian) with many of the vegetables on your plate coming straight from the farm. Just sit at the dining table and enjoy the feeling of being very pampered.
IN AND AROUND:
All the sights in Mysore including the Mysore Palace are within sightseeing distance. I would recommend your own vehicle or a rented one though as it becomes quite difficult otherwise. They can also provide a vehicle if you let them know in advance. There are also long nature walks you can take around the homestay itself.
GETTING THERE:
Once you get to Mysore you need to head towards T. Narasipura Road. On this road, you will come to Chikka Hally, where you need to take a diversion on the right (look out for the sign). Give the hosts a call for the exact landmarks.
Bangalore to Mysore is around a 3–4 hour drive.
BUDGET:
Reasonable
LAST WORD:
Be prepared for a real “home” away from home. From the food, to the neat rooms and the hospitality, there is something very charming about Hillview. There’s enough space for kids to run around and bond with nature. There are hammocks placed strategically so you can just settle down with a book. And a clean chlorine free pool that you can splash about it.

The only problem with this place is that they assume you have a modest (small) appetite. So if your appetite is normal, you’re gonna lose some weight
Posted by James Kuruvilla | January 25, 2011, 10:42 amAnita, thanks again for introducing us to this lovely place!
James, I have a rather huge appetite (so do my parents) and we found that the food was more than plentiful (extra servings, extra extra servings… what more can one desire?)
